PCO LICENCE RENEWALS
Renewing Your PCO Licence: What You Need to Know
Renewing your PCO Licence on time is essential — driving with an expired licence is illegal and can result in serious penalties. To avoid unnecessary stress or delays, many drivers choose to seek professional assistance during the renewal process.
LPLC offers a comprehensive PCO Licence renewal package designed to simplify every step. This includes:
-
Medical Support – A TPH/204 medical form, completed by a GMC-registered GP.
-
DBS Application – We will handle the application for your Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
-
Online Submission – Your completed renewal application will be submitted directly to TfL on your behalf.
By using a trusted provider like LPLC, you can ensure your renewal is processed correctly and efficiently — helping you stay fully licensed and on the road without disruption.
PCO RENEWAL APPLICATION CHECKLIST:

If your PCO Licence expires, i.e the expiry date of your badge has passed and you do not renew in time you are not legally entitled to drive and your insurance will therefore be invalid. If you do not manage to renew your PCO Licence in time, TFL will allow you an extension of up to 3 months from the date of expiry. If you do not renew your PCO licence within these 3 months, and you wish to continue/carry on driving you must file a new application to TFL.

Important Information for PCO Licence Applicants and Renewals
DBS Update Service
Registering with the DBS Update Service can help avoid delays during renewal. It removes the need for repeat checks unless your DBS status changes, saving both time and money.
Photograph ID Requirements
Applicants must submit a recent photograph to appear on their licence. Refer to TfL’s “Photo Guidance” for specifications.
Application by Post
While applying online is quicker, postal applications are also accepted. Ensure your form is complete, include your DVLA share code, sign the declaration, and return it promptly. Send all documents to:
Transport for London
Taxi & Private Hire
PO Box 7632
Bilston
WV14 4DN
Also return your expired licence and, if applicable, your PHV badge within seven days.
Contacting TfL
For updates or changes (e.g., to personal details, medical conditions, or to report convictions), email: drivers@tph.tfl.gov.uk.
To report fraudulent fast-track services: tphreport@tfl.gov.uk
HMRC Tax Check
Since April 2022, all applicants must complete an HMRC tax check and submit a valid 9-character code with their application. The code must be valid at submission (expires after 120 days).
EU/EEA Nationals
Applicants from the EU/EEA must provide evidence of their right to work in the UK. See the relevant TfL guidance document for details.
Late Renewals
If your licence expires, you cannot work until a new one is issued. Renewing more than three months after expiry requires a new application. Continued work without a valid licence is a criminal offence and may affect future applications.
Lost, Stolen, or Damaged Licence Parts
Report these immediately. Replacement requests (with a crime reference number if stolen) can be made via tphlicensing@tfl.gov.uk. A black cab driver badge replacement costs £15.
Return old licence parts to:

Vehicle Licence Surrender
If a TfL-licensed vehicle is no longer used for private hire, return the discs and licence documents to the same Sheffield address above.
